::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: FARMERS’ MARKET RECIPE :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Turnip Green Pie

Ingredients
* Green from 6 small turnips, rinsed well and chopped (I used greens from Roland the “Agate guy” and roasted the turnips to eat on the side)
* Garlic Scapes^, 1/2 bunch, chopped
* olive oil
* 1/2 lb ricotta
* 4 eggs (I used some from Elwood Stock Farm)
* 1/2 cup parmesan + 2 tbs for top of pie
* 1/4 cup bread crumbs
* salt and pepper

^ Garlic Scapes are the green part of a garlic flower (but I could be wrong – ask @ Blue Moon Farm)

Directions
Saute greens and scapes in olive oil until softened. Mix with cheeses and eggs. Season with salt and pepper. Fold into greased 8” square baking dish. Top with reserved parmesan and bread crumbs and bake at 375 degrees until puffy and set in the center.

:: Wednesday, May 24 ::
PETTICOAT, PETTICOAT w/ATTEMPT @ The Dame
9pm, ages 21+, $3

Lexington indie pop (Petticoat, Petticoat) meets Lexington prog pop (Attempt). http://myspace.com/petticoatpetticoat, http://myspace.com/attempt.

:: Thursday, May 25 ::
JON MUELLER/JIM SCHOENBECKER w/THREE LEGGED RACE @ Underlying Themes, 110 S. Upper
8pm, all ages, $3

Part of the Outside the Spotlight jazz and improvised music series.

Jon Mueller was here as part of the series last fall with Jack Wright and Carol Genetti (at Firebird Studio). He's a percussionist/electronicist from Milwaukee who studied jazz with the late Hal Russell and has played with a who's who of modern improvising musicians including Wright, Genetti, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Bhob Rainey, and Lionel Marchetti. Jim Schoenecker his partner in crime for this show is an electronic composer and improviser. For those who saw Mueller's performance with Wright and Genetti, you know this will be one of the more subtle shows in the series – as much about the silence between sounds as the sounds themselves (a far cry from the Outside the Spotlight blowout with Mandarin Movie, Blastocyst and Sharks With Wings a couple weeks ago).

Three Legged Race is the solo analog electronics project of our friend Robert Beatty. Many of you will recognize him as a member of the groups Hair Police and Eyes and Arms of Smoke. His TLR performance at the February Lexington Underground Performing Arts Series show was strikingly beautiful. If you’re playing along at home, grab your copy of "Know Your Own" vol.2, click forward to track 27, hit play. It's lovely stuff.
[FULL DISLOSURE: I helped organize this show.]

:: Friday, May 26 ::
BLACKALICIOUS w/THE DIALECTICS and DJ SICARI @ The Dame
9pm, ages 21+, $15

Indie hip hop icons Blackalicious return to the Dame. Their first trip to town last November sold out, so I’d recommend grabbing tix ahead of time.

:: Monday, May 29 ::
Memorial Day Party featuring IN ENDEAVORS ITALYA, CAVES, and more @ CD Central
12noon, all ages, FREE

> See ‘Announcements’ for full details <

:: Thursday, June 1 ::
THE PINK MOUNTAINTOPS @ Second Story (Bloomington, IN)
doors 9:30pm, show 10:30pm, ages 21+, $? (sorry I couldn’t find the info online)

THE PINK MOUNTAINTOPS = a side project from Stephen McBean of Black Mountain - “a thumping, buzzing, blissful haze … sounding like the Velvet Underground or Spacemen 3 or the Jesus and Mary Chain circa Psycho Candy.” I heart them. Haven’t heard them? Go to http://myspace.com/pinkmountaintops (“Tourist In Your Town” is my favorite track) or head straight to an mp3 of “New Drug Queens” from their new record “Axis of Evol” at http://www.scjag.com/mp3/jag/newdrugqueens.mp3.

:: Saturday, June 3 ::
Infusion Tribal Dance-A-Go-Go featuring RACHEL BRICE, RAKADU GYPSY, MIRA BETZ, LIZ STRONG, and more
@ The Dame – late, doors open at 10pm, ages 21+, $15

The Perfect Banquet

The perfect banquet....devoured....

Transpiring downtown, Saturday, June 3rd, is the InFusion Tribal Dance-a-Go-Go: a feast for the senses to nourish the ceaseless urban bite. Unfold and be lost in dance, music, silk, and smokescreen.

Sample the local faire:
The knockout, improvisational narrative of Rakadu Gypsy Dance Ensemble in collaboration with artists Aminata Baruti, Chandra Nair, and Pezhead.

Featuring the delicious addition of phenomenal west coast talent: Mira Betz, Liz Strong, and Rachel Brice...

Mira Betz, of San Francisco, has been touring nationally with workshops and performances. Her background ranges from traditional to contemporary, and her performances reveal the dialogue and emotion of history and the human element.

Liz Strong, also from San Francisco, has studied Middle Eastern and Turkish Roman dance forms. She travels internationally to perform and teach. Her personal style is rich in imagery, passion, and energy and able to bring your heart forefront for reckoning.

Rachel Brice, also, also of San Francisco, is the director of The Indigo, a tribal fusion troupe from the bay area, which has become an international success. She is one of the most infamous interpretive artists in the tribal fusion style, and travels internationally sharing said art form. Her amazing stage presence is seeded with intricate body articulations, sanguineous movement, and powerful momentum.

Such decadence should not to be missed...

Encounter this event at The Dame, 156 West Main Street in downtown Lexington. BYOPillow for lounge seating. Doors open at 10 p.m. $15 cover.

Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance through paypal. For information: info@meccadance.com
