This afternoon at 3pm at CD Central (377 S. Limestone) – an in-store performance by Tel Aviv’s The Genders. The show is FREE and open to all ages. Here’s the scoop from a recent CD Central newsletter – “From Israel come the Genders, a punk rock powerhouse who will grace the CD Central stage at 3 p.m. on July 28. Influenced by AC/DC, the Stooges, the Cult, MC5. Released the CD Rockin' in Ramallah on Canadian label AMP Records in 2005. Will be touring the U.S. to promote the release of a new album, Virgin No. 72. "Straight outta Tel Aviv (!) the bomb-dodging Genders are the slinkiest, kinkiest, ass-rockingest cock n' roll sensation in the Middle East." (Sleazegrinder)”

Void Skate Shop and Busters (corner Main and Upper – next to the Dame) have teamed up to present a series of FREE shows this summer. Every Thursday throughout the summer, you’ll find free entertainment (and oftentimes free pizza!) at our favorite bar. Tonight (June 28), it’s The Cheat (from Nashville, I believe) with dj sets by the 45’s of Funk. Next Thursday, July 5, it’s Wretched Worst, Caboladies, and dj sets by Ben Allen. Join For the Love of Dogs Bakery and other area businesses for the first Lexington Canine Fashion Show. Runway Show starting at 6 pm. All proceeds will benefit the Lexington area Love on a Leash Group. Love on a Leash is a group of volunteers who do therapy work with their dogs in places such as nursing homes, schools, and hospitals. Festivities will include wine tasting, raffles and special pricing on many items throughout the bakery.
:: July ??:: Doggy Ice-cream Social and Art show. Join Dogtown for a fun-filled day of playing in the sun and chilling in the doggy pools. A beautiful cello/bass/drums trio from Chicago merging elements of free-jazz, European improv, and neo-classical musics. The group is led by cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm (member of Brotzmann Chicago Tentet, Vandermark 5) and features Jason Roebke (bass; leader of Rapid Croche) and Frank Rosaly (drums; member of Chicago Luzern Exchange, Rempis Percussion Quartet).
Some info from Lonberg-Holm's website - "The Valentine Trio was begun as a tribute project to the jazz cello great Fred Katz. The first record was titled A Valentine for Fred Katz and featured Katz's compositions and others he recorded. The bassist was Jason Roebke and the drummer was Glenn Kotche. The second record, Other Valentines covered compositions by a diverse collection of composers including Gil Scott-Heron, Syd Barrett, Jeff Tweedy, Sun Ra, Cat Power, as well as originals by Lonberg-Holm and Roebke. Frank Rosaly replaced Kotche, Roebke stayed on. The third and most recent disc, Terminal Valentine, continues the same line-up and features original compositions by Fred Lonberg-Holm. The music for the trio's new record ("Terminal Valentine" on Atavistic") was conceived of for his quartet Terminal Four. Great Independence Day lineup presented by CD Central and WRFL 88.1 FM our two most reliable sources for independent music. Kicks off at 10am with The Swells. Then, Big Fresh at 11. Cincinnati’s Wussy (a new band from Chuck Cleaver of the Ass Ponys) will play at 1:15pm. Another Cincy band 500 Miles To Memphis hits the stage after the parade (around 3:15pm). Then, In Endeavors Italya attempts to rock us back toward sobriety from 4:30-5:30pm. I said it in the last issue – this is the absolute best part of the J4 festivities downtown.

Great Independence Day lineup presented by CD Central and WRFL 88.1 FM our two most reliable sources for independent music. Kicks off at 10am with The Swells. Then, Big Fresh at 11. Cincinnati’s Wussy (a new band from Chuck Cleaver of the Ass Ponys) will play at 1:15pm. Another Cincy band 500 Miles To Memphis hits the stage after the parade (around 3:15pm). Then, In Endeavors Italya attempts to rock us back toward sobriety from 4:30-5:30pm. I said it in the last issue – this is the absolute best part of the J4 festivities downtown.
