TLP July 25, 2007
A patch-through Lex Pro. I've got family in town and decided to hang with them instead of efforting a full issue. So, this lil' ish takes you through next Wednesday. I'll hope to have a full issue out then.
Ride your bike down to Giacomo's tomorrow morning for the bike commuter breakfast (you'll probably want to go back for lunch - their sandwiches are amazing!). Pack up your friends and drive to Louisville for the Forecastle Festival this weekend. Save your energy for a trio of great shows at the Icehouse next weekend+ - Ilad w/Jordan Munson on Friday, Aug 3rd; Ideal Free Distribution, Bunnygrunt, Zavala, and more on Saturday, the 4th; Red Pony Clock w/The Joybombs on Tuesday, the 7th.
Thanks to Greg Abernathy for compiling the outdoor haps and to Eli Riveire for writing the Forecastle preview.
Luv, Ross

** “A Void Busters” - FREE Thursday night shows @ Busters
Void Skate Shop and Busters (corner Main and Upper – next to the Dame) have teamed up to present a series of FREE shows this summer. Every Thursday throughout the summer, you’ll find free entertainment (and oftentimes free pizza!) at our favorite bar. I finally made it down to the show last Thursday. Ton of fun and a well-timed slice of free pizza. Very nice. Sorry, I screwed around and lost my schedule, so I'm not sure who's playing this week. I'm sure whoever plays it'll be a blast.
** Fri/July 27 – FREE in-store performance – Tommy Womack @ CD Central, 377 S. Limestone
From the CD Central newsletter - "THIS FRIDAY! JULY 27, 1 PM: TOMMY WOMACK - Next up on the CD Central stage is singer-songwriter Tommy Womack. Name sound vaguely famliar? He used to play guitar in a band called Government Cheese at Lexington's legendary Wrocklage on Short Street back in the 80's. He's a native Kentuckian now living in Nashville and turning out some great music which squarely files in our "Americana" (formerly Alternative Country) section. The show is free, so take a long lunch break and check it out!"
** Music at POPS Resale
Our friends at POPS Resale (in the Meadowthorpe Shopping Centre on Leestown Rd – home to the most wonderfully overwhelming collection of used vinyl in Lexington) have started hosting music events. A mix of live music and djs. This Saturday, the 28th, it’s DJ Otis Badass spinning country. For full info, check out http://myspace.com/popsresale.

all ye swashbucklers better prepare - forecastle 2007 draws near!
yes, folks, it's that time of year again. throw on your cutoffs, dig those sunglasses out of the glove compartment, and get yer booty over to louisville this weekend for one of the biggest (and coolest) events in kentucky. the forecastle festival is back, and with a decidedly awesome bang this year. while last year's lineup boasted heavyweights sleater-kinney (in one of their last performances ever) and local
heroes the apples in stereo, the sun may shine just a little bit brighter for the 6th annual festival. let's just get straight to some highlights of this stellar lineup, shall we?
on friday, july 27th, shake your butts all around to scourge of the sea, captain of industry, iswhat?!, how i became the bomb, chicago afrobeat, aloha, and acclaimed headliners de la soul! yes!
of saturday, july 28th, the west stage is especially packed with exciting names -
the high water marks (jangly homegrown pop - ED. NOTE - I believe HWM had to pull out because of an injury to drummer Jim Lindsay's hand. Get well soon, Jim.)
the impossible shapes (sweet sounds from bloomington)
early day miners (secretly canadian stars)
the features (lovely and fun thrash-pop)
wax fang (kings of rock and roll!)
mucca pazza (circus punk marching band...what?! awesome!!)
and headlining, GIRL TALK (master of mashups!)
and, of course, like twenty other awesome bands will also be doing their thing while you shake it in the sun. with festival tickets being so affordable, you really can't afford to miss this action.
speaking of action, that's another big part of forecastle. the forecastle festival is actually a three-fold event - music.art.activism. a couple dozen local and regional artists will be showcasing their work for your enjoyment (and maybe for you to take home to your living room), while an impressive list of local and regional environmental activist groups will also be on hand to discuss
what's going on in the bluegrass and what we can do to make things better. ever wanted to get involved in kentucky's future? what a perfect way to get started.
louisville (and kentucky) is lucky to host such a gathering of excitingly progressive ideas. did you know that forecastle is actually the largest gathering of musicians, artists and activists in the
american midwest? that's a pretty darn cool thing to boast. round up your closest compadres and make the trip to louisville this weeked - you won't regret it.
