Yup, big fun in a small place. Athens, GA's Nana Grizol stole my heart when they performed as part of the Elephant 6 Holiday Surprise show at The Red Mile Round Barn last October. Ever since, their record "Love It Love It" has been on heavy rotation on my turntable and in my earbuds. Don't know if I can properly describe the sound ... ecstatic, emotionally resonant, ramshackle indie pop/rock ... ah, that makes 'em sound like douches (or, rather, makes me sound like a douche). Anyway, click over to myspace.com/nanagrizol and listen to a couple tunes. Asstricks* is a new project featuring members of Big Fresh and the Dialectics. Little Noodles is Lex Pro contributor and all around swell gal, Eli Riveire, whom some of you that don't know her directly might at least recognize as the cute ukelele player from the short-lived, but well-loved girl group Laloux. She and her capable cohort Nick Warner will charm us with a few uke pop songs (yes, they are planning a double uke attack). I expect it'll be a relatively short show (both the locals are planning short sets), so show up on the early side. I think Little Noodles will probably start by 9:30 and things will roll quickly from there.
If you're familiar with Ya Ya, you might be thinking, 'where are they gonna put the band?" We're gonna clear out the tables and chairs at the front of the shop and set the band up against the front window. It'll likely still be tight, but it's meant to be more house party than rock show. Come Come Come! Great inexpensive cajun grub (if you show up early) and cheap beers ($2 Abita & Budweiser/Bud Light, $3 Sam Adams & Red Stripe) for those of age.
